One of the many benefits of being a NILA member is that you are issued the NILA Prescription Discount Card. This card can be used at over 60,000 pharmacies nationwide, including Wal-Mart, CVS, and Walgreens. Depending on the pharmacy that you use and the medication that you are taking, you will be able to save up to 60% off of the cost of your prescriptions.
For those that are completely uninsured, you can use this card exclusively to save money on the out-of-pocket expense for your medications. In fact, you can even use the NILA card for uninsured friends and family members; additionally, if your pet is ever prescribed any medication, you can use the NILA card for your pet’s prescription(s).
If you have insurance, this card is not meant to be used in place of your current coverage; you should use the card to save money on medication(s) that your insurance will not already cover. Most major insurances have a list of medications that they will pay for. In the event that you are prescribed something that is not on that list, you can use your NILA card at the pharmacy in place of your insurance card. Also, if you have a Medicare Part D prescription program that stops paying for your medication at some point during the year, you will be able to use the NILA card until your benefits kick in again.
The NILA prescription discount card is not tied to any specific person. Some pharmacies may refer to this as a “non-membership group”. This is how you are able to use the card for your pet’s medication and loan it to friends and family members that are uninsured. Because of this fact, most pharmacies will ask for your “member ID” when you present your NILA card. Whoever is attempting to use the card must provide his or her own social security number as the “member ID”. In some cases you may assist the pharmacy by informing them that the card is from a “non-membership group”. In the event that your pharmacy has any additional trouble verifying benefits with your NILA card, please ask him or her to dial the toll free number that is on the back of the card, which is 1-800-788-2949. When your pharmacy calls in they may find it useful to know that we are “under the Commnet umbrella”.
